Animals in Need-In July of 2011, McDermott Law Firm, P.A.
began providing pro bono legal services to the SPCA Tampa Bay,
Inc. located in Largo, Florida. When law enforcement seizes an
animal in distress that is being cruelly treated, the animal
is often placed with a local shelter such as the SPCA Tampa
Bay. McDermott Law Firm, P.A. provides litigation services to
gain custody and ownership of these animals so they can be
brought back to health and adopted out to loving families.
Providing zealous legal services on behalf of these helpless
animals has been very rewarding.
Lincoln
Lincoln McDermott was one of 38 puppies that
were living in horrible conditions at a local pet store. The
dogs were covered in feces and urine and many had infections
and worms. Many of the dogs were undernourished and had been
left without food or water for a considerable amount of
time. Through the legal representation of McDermott Law
Firm, P.A., the SPCA was able to gain ownership of all 38
puppies. This was a great victory for the SPCA as well as
McDermott Law Firm, P.A.
During the litigation, Mr. McDermott would often visit the
puppies who were patiently awaiting their fate. He became
very close to one dog in particular; the long eared, droopy
eyed Basset Hound. After the litigation was over and
ownership was granted to the SPCA, Mr. McDermott adopted the
Basset and named him Lincoln after the 16th president who
was also an attorney.
